Kumihimo: at Lineapelle here is the metallization of Materica

Materica transforms matter, redefining the boundaries between tradition and innovation. Through metallization, it gives new life to surfaces and materials, creating stunning effects that blend aesthetics, functionality, and sustainability. With a visionary approach, Materica explores the infinite potential of matter, elevating it to an art form and demonstrating how technology can enhance the value of craftsmanship. This philosophy finds one of its most fascinating expressions in Kumihimo, a screen that perfectly embodies the dialogue between materials, design, and innovation.

Kumihimo at Lineapelle 2025

Recently presented at Lineapelle, the most important international leather trade fair held in Milan, the Kumihimo screen emerges from the encounter between innovation, design, and artisanal tradition. Designed by architect Maurizio Molini of Studio Molini, this extraordinary furnishing element is the result of synergy between different production realities. The wooden frame holds nautical ropes skillfully woven by Pro-Fit, inspired by the ancient Japanese Kumihimo technique, traditionally used to decorate samurai uniforms. Enhanced by Materica’s metallization process, this project serves as a bridge between fashion, architecture, and design, proving how different materials and techniques can merge into a single creation.

The Collaboration Between Materica, Pro-Fit, and Maurizio Molini

The true value of Kumihimo lies in the collaboration between companies from different sectors, such as Materica and Pro-Fit, under the artistic direction of Maurizio Molini. The goal is to explore new expressive possibilities, giving life to a piece that celebrates both craftsmanship and technological research. Leather, fabric, and wood—materials typically linked to fashion and interior design—merge into a structure that defies conventions and opens new aesthetic perspectives. Materica plays a key role in this transformation, using its advanced &amp;amp;lt;strong&gt;met</strong>allization technique. Wood and fabric undergo a process that envelops them in a delicate brass fusion, radically altering their appearance and tactile perception. The result is a hybrid surface, preserving the memory of its original material while acquiring a new, more precious, and durable identity.

Metallization: Where Craftsmanship, Innovation, and Vision Meet

Kumihimo is a perfect example of Made in Italy excellence, blending craftsmanship, innovation, and creative visionMaterica’s metallization opens new possibilities for design and architecture, proving that matter can be reinterpreted without losing its essence but rather enriched with new aesthetic and functional dimensions.
