Materica’s Magic Mirror boiserie, designed by Draw Studio and part of the prestigious Superfici Venice Collection, has won the prestigious Archiproducts Design Award 2024 in the Finishes category. An award of great international value, celebrating the avant-garde concept and design realized by Materica thanks to the innovative metallization technique, a flagship of the Veneto-based company.
The Archiproducts Design Awards, launched for the first time in 2016, reward global excellence in design every year, bringing together the industry’s leading players in Milan. For the ninth consecutive year, an international jury of influential figures in the fields of architecture and design selected products that embody innovation, sustainability and creativity. Materica’s Magic Mirror paneling was recognized precisely for its ability to synergistically combine design, craftsmanship and innovative vision, demonstrating the excellence of the collaboration between brand and designer.
Magic Mirror is one of ten boiserie from the Superfici Venice Collection, the first collection of surfaces by Materica. In an encounter between art and design, Magic Mirror draws inspiration from the works of Anish Kapoor, presenting concave mirror surfaces characterized by mysterious curves that distort and transform the reflection of the outside world. This distortion invites the viewer to explore reality from a new perspective, transforming spaces into environments full of magic and optical suggestions. Every curve and reflection becomes an experience of contemplation, transforming architecture into a dance of visual illusions. The Magic Mirror project is signed by Draw Studio, founded by Luca Martorano and Mattia Albicini, a studio based in Alto Adige and Tuscany, which stands out for its composed elegance and refined production. This is their comment on the boiserie: “We have always been fascinated by the idea of using elementary, simple, accomplished forms and figures. The point is to have the opportunity to do it in an original way. The technology and experience developed by Materica allowed us precisely to transform something common and ordinary into an extraordinary object. Only through this technology was it possible to overcome the limit of the matter and merge, through a three-dimensional movement, the lens and the plane from which it gently emerges. The result is for us something astonishing, where the image of the person about to be mirrored is turned upside down, distorted, decomposed and stretched as if entering a cubist or surrealist painting.
The triumph at the Archiproducts Design Awards 2024 is further confirmation of Materica’s ability to revolutionize the surface industry, making each project a work of art. “This award represents for Materica the recognition of about twenty years of research, testing, experimentation, investment, but also successes and failures, tears and joy,” is the comment of Maurizio Orfino, CEO of Materica. ”It is also and above all a great recognition for our team that in production make with great skill and a lot of sweat something unique on the market. For Materica this award also represents a great stimulus to push even further: We are not at all satisfied and want to continue to experiment, innovate, amaze, with a pinch of healthy madness.” A goal achieved with Superfici Venice Collection, on which Orfino explains, “Those who discover SVC first and foremost discover an unexpected innovative concept of the application of 100 percent metal. It is a modular system that allows the use of metal surfaces, as if they were fine fabrics. Metal yes, but with a lightweight core (polyurethane, mdf, etc.). SVC thus solve the need of architects and designers in being able to apply for example, the elegance and sobriety of a burnished bronze, without necessarily suffering the costs and limitations of a casting.
